Resize Image to 20–50KB

This tool runs in your browser and needs JavaScript.

To compress an image to 20–50KB, select your photo above and download the result. The tool keeps the highest quality that fits, and only shrinks the picture if it must. Online exam and job forms often accept a photo only inside a range like this, and reject files that are too small as well as too large.

How to compress an image to 20–50KB

  1. Select your photo; 20–50KB is already set. Your compressed photo appears straight away.
  2. Fix the framing if needed. Use Crop or Rotate, then select Download.

Why do forms ask for 20KB to 50KB?

A range means your file can be rejected for being too small as well as too large. That catches people out: a simple photo at small dimensions can come out under 20KB even at best quality. In one of our tests, a photo at 200 × 230 pixels reached only 18KB.

  • Exam and job application photos
  • Thumb impressions

Tip: This page already sets both limits. If the result is under 20KB, the tool says so instead of hiding it; try a sharper original photo, or larger pixel dimensions if your form allows them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 20–50KB?

Select your photo at the top of this page. The 20–50KB target is already set, and the result is ready to download in moments. The tool finds the highest quality that fits, and shrinks the picture only if it has to.

What if my photo comes out under 20KB?

Use a sharper, more detailed original, or larger pixel dimensions if your form allows them, because more detail takes more bytes. The tool tells you when a photo can’t reach the minimum at best quality.

Does 20–50KB mean 1000 or 1024 bytes per KB?

Forms rarely say. This page stays inside the range either way: at least 20,480 bytes and at most 50,000 bytes.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo is processed by your own browser and never sent to our server, so this tool also works for ID photos and signatures. You can check by turning off your internet after the page loads: it keeps working, except that an iPhone HEIC photo needs one small download the first time.
